WASAT – Delta Geminorum. The most important fixed star for collective healing. Clearing Pluto.

Wasat is a fixed star belonging to the constellation of Gemini, and its denomination is Delta Geminorum. In astrology, for reasons that will not be covered here, it is conventionally located at 18°49’ Cancer, and has a magnitude of 3.53, which gives it an orb of 1°40’.

The Sun has just started being aligned with it as I write.

(personal notes and online sources below)

All the collective should really take accountability for healing the themes that Wasat presents us with. Especially today with the current global situation. Each individual can reflect upon the major aspects of Wasat, within the (protected) crucible of their own minds and hearts, and seek to transform and balance out the deep pain and destructive violence which contaminated so many minds and still is demanding healing. The star itself seems to ask for it: its name, in Arabic, means “the Middle”.

Wasat is in fact the only star of the constellation of Gemini which sits in the middle, and thus represents either a point of conflict or a point of union, depending on the perspective given to the twins. Its location is really close to the ecliptic, giving it that prominence in the observation of solar system objects, as it happened when Pluto was discovered conjunct to it in 1930. Wasat was the point of reference for the observation of the movement of Pluto for the space of a few days, compared by a blink machine. This last information (which I had to check twice, as I could not believe it!!) was the final push to attempt something more than my academic endeavours on how to resolve the question of hyper-polarization and lack of heart within my field, or the inner alchemy to resolve and heal the damages which Wasat energies have caused on my individual life, my family, and the whole of my society. Pluto is one of those planets whose influence is still somewhat confused, its archetypes being mainly negatively perceived, or its narratives being twisted or misconstrued for the sake of a skewed concept of personal power which leads to justify abuse. Also, the cloudiness on Pluto is reflected directly on Scorpio, with major consequences on Scorpios themselves.

So, let's take a look at this star.

Wasat is considered to be of the nature of Saturn. In fact, Wasat is incredibly prominent in the charts of subjects who caused mass killings and gave life to destructive ideologies, causing major transgenerational trauma, as well as being active during major men-caused catastrophes such as Hiroshima (Saturn conjunct Wasat). Below some of the major themes associated with it (in inverted commas, the quotes from the sources, all listed below).

1. “quality of being able to speak with clear authority when others are waffling and prominence in public affairs or management is often the result”.

2. “partnership and compromise, but also separation”.

3. “helps build bridges, forms alliances, and treaties”.

4. nuclear, poison, gas weapons. War and destructive, top-down overwhelming violent actions and the underlying ideologies.

5. refusal of parental figures, anger towards nourishing relationships, lack of emotion, domestic violence.

6. sexual perversion.

7. self-isolation, melancholy, pessimism, genius.

Despite what others have written about Wasat, I do not tend to recognise any positive outcome in the bombing of Hiroshima. I suggest people who still identify a greater act of violence as the only solution to perpetrated violence to revise their standing.

Wasat seem to have this tendency to nurture a sort of self-referential hatred which starts within the early years in the family and targets all the subjects which are considered as “weak”. The self-referential narratives which were born after 1930 and were magnifying skewed concepts of virility and a classical “us versus them” nationalistic ideologies, seem to find a good example in Mussolini, who had Jupiter conjoint Wasat.

There seems to be also a potential for forceful actions in the opposite direction, i.e., in trying to re-build bridges, to re-calibrate and mediate, even if the force of those actions only increases the danger of falling in the downward spiral of violence. The two-faced reactions, a perfectly aligned Gemini theme, are both difficult to be seen as resolutive in any way. Wasat seems to suggest finding the “middle ground”, before any actions are taken, primarily within ourselves. To avoid jumping from one end of the duality to the other, another Gemini theme.

As for Pluto, discovered aligned under the influence of Wasat, I believe the concept of “power” needs to be re-assessed, attempting a removal of all the points seen above, which could be synthetised in the removal of prevarication linked to the concept of power. In the observation I have done in my life and more recent years, Pluto tends to express itself as a personal archetype only through the unconscious (or rarely conscious) manipulation of others or in open abuse of others to obtain material or egoic rewards, together with a perverse pleasure in seeing others suffering because of it. Instead, I believe that the real power of Pluto is in personal, self-contained empowerment, one which allows to endure deep life transformations through the slow but constant and definitive erosion of the previous forms our selves inhabited. I have already written about the discipline which attentive destruction entails, and how careful that operation must be to discover solid foundations for our future self. Drastic forms of destruction such as Wasat seem to suggest, only allow the old ways to endure for longer periods of time.

I have no solution to Wasat energies, it honestly scared me to discover the constellation of events and typologies associated with it. I came across this fixed star for the solar Eclipse in Taurus in May 2022. Its position was incredibly precise for a relevant element for the local chart. I was shocked to know about it. It seemed as if I had been working with healing the energy of that star all my life, despite having no major astrological elements in its degrees in my own chart, as it happened for Algol last year. The more I researched on it, the more I discovered I could not refrain from working with it, despite (or because of) the incredibly powerful negative energy associated with it. Although I believe nowadays, with the Pluto return for the US and the current top-down aggressive crisis we are all living, discovering the healing for Wasat and clearing the Pluto archetype would be really useful for all.

Finally, that painful point about relationships linked to Wasat: none of the sources I consulted had any reference to the highly possible traumatic experiences lived by strong Wasat-position souls. Research could be performed, deepening the understanding of the psychology of some of them, with the purpose of understanding possible healing paths which could prevent them from falling in the downward spiral, and allow them to shine their light without harm.

It's a Hero Journey, I know. And this all comes from Chiron.
