RUMI - Moon and Neptune

14.

We slip in the whirlpool, today

You lovers and me, together,

And there’s no one who knows how to swim.

Even if all the world would be inundated

With this Flood and even if every Wave

Would run impetuous as a camel,

They would not be damaged

If not for the birds who live on the water;

But the birds of the air

They surely should be shivering.

We are pupils of the Sea and the Waves:

Let’s give thanks, with shining faces

Because the sea and the typhons

Are a source of life for fishes.

Let the master give us a blanket

Let the water give us permission to dive

And then let Moses come with the staff

To strike the sea.

This Wind triggers in every heart

A black passion, always new:

I love that cup-bearer,

You can have all the others.

That cup-bearer who yesterday, on the road,

Stole the drunk men’s hat

And today, with wine, prepares

To steal our robes.

You are the envy of Jupiter and of the Moon

But you, as a fairy, stay hidden,

And sweetly pull me in unexplored territories.

You are always with me

You are my eyes and you are my light:

If you so wish, lead me to inebriation,

If you so wish, transfigure me in no thing.

It’s like a Sinai, this world,

And we are Moses in the research:

Every moment a new epiphany

Transforms the mountain:

Green field, whiteness of the narcissus

And then pearl, then amber, then ruby.

If you are looking for him

Turn your eyes to his mountains:

Now the Echo inebriates us

With that Wind that runs on the mountain tops.

O gardener, why are you attacking us?

We took your grapes, that’s true,

But you have stolen our saddlebags.
